What an online shop
costs in Cyprus

The build is one part. Here is everything else you pay.

Building an online shop in Cyprus starts from €2,500. The number that should concern you, though, is not that one but what each order costs you once you open. That is where the business is decided.

The one off build cost

WhatWhat it meansCost
Basic shopUp to 100 products, one payment provider, simple shipping€2.500+
Mid sizedProduct variants, discounts, several shipping methods€4.000+
ComplexLinks to stock or accounting, B2B pricing, two languages€6.000+
Loading productsIf you are not doing it yourself. Count per product€1 to €4

Loading products is the most underestimated cost. With 800 products it alone can exceed the build. If you have a file from your supplier, most of it goes away.

What you pay every year

WhatWhat it meansPer year
Domain and hostingA shop needs stronger hosting than a plain website€150 to €500
Platform subscriptionOnly if you pick Shopify or similar. With WooCommerce or custom, nothing€0 to €1.200
Add onsSearch, reviews, email, anything not included from the start€0 to €600
MaintenanceUpdates and security. On a shop this is not optional€199 to €349

The cost that runs on every order

This is what most people forget when working out whether it pays. You do not pay it to the builder, you pay it to the bank and the courier, on every sale.

Card fees. Typically 1.4% to 2.9% plus a fixed amount per transaction. On €50,000 of turnover that is €700 to €1,500 a year.
Shipping. Either you charge the customer or you absorb it. Free shipping above a threshold lifts sales but eats your margin.
Returns. The law gives the consumer 14 days to withdraw. Budget a return rate from the start, it is not a surprise.
Advertising. A shop with no visitors does not sell. Either you pay Google and Meta, or you invest time in SEO and content.
In Cyprus a shop also carries legal obligations: trader details, a 14 day right of withdrawal, shipping costs shown before payment, a privacy policy and a link to the European dispute resolution platform. Check free whether your shop meets them.

A realistic example

A shop with 150 products, one language, card and cash on delivery. Build €3,200, loading products €300 because a supplier file exists. First year: hosting and maintenance €450. First year total around €3,950, then about €450 a year plus the fees on turnover.

Common questions

Is it worth starting on Shopify to see if it works?
If you want to test the idea quickly with few products, yes. You open in days at a low starting cost. The question comes later, when the subscription and the add ons pass what your own shop would have cost. We compare them in detail here.
Do I really need cards or is cash on delivery enough?
Cash on delivery is still popular in Cyprus, but without cards you lose orders from abroad and part of the larger baskets. The usual answer is to have both.
How long does it take to open?
Three to six weeks to build. In practice the timeline is set by when the products, the photos and the descriptions are ready.
Can I move my products elsewhere later?
With WooCommerce and with a shop of your own, yes, the database is yours. With closed platforms you export the basics but usually lose categories, discounts and anything built with add ons. Ask this before you choose.
